Time management is one reason why homework is even assigned to students as they are preparing for life out in the real world. Managing your time is a skill that must be learned to be successful in all parts of your life from getting to a doctor’s appointment, to a job interview or to your job. This is just one of the many skills that are taught to students during the high school years that are life-long lessons. Here are some ways to teach effective homework time-management solutions for high school solutions:

  • Have a schedule – Plan out what you have to do for the day and try to stick to your schedule. If you start doing this every day, it will become a habit and it will get easy to do. Once it becomes a habit, it will be a great tool to have in all different areas of your life.

  • Learn how long certain things take – This is something that is very important to learn how to do. It is really difficult to learn how to do different things. In order to really understand how long things take, you have to pay attention.

  • Usually the best thing to do is plan on how long something will take, then add another 1/3 again as long to be sure you allow enough time. It doesn’t help say it is going to take less time because that doesn’t change how long it takes. Try to be realistic so you can get better at budgeting your time.

  • Don’t overload yourself with too much to do – This is very difficult for many students because there are so many extra-curricular activities to do as well as their school work and then just time to relax. Don’t try to stuff too much in each day to do and you will have an easier time getting everything done. If you make a habit not to be rushing all of the time, you will be more successful at completing everything.

  • Don’t procrastinate – This is a bad habit to do so the best thing is to never fall into this type of behavior. It is always harder to break a habit than it is to start it in the first place. Try to get your work done soon after it is assigned. It doesn’t make sense to play games with yourself to see how close you can get to the completion time.
